The Universidad de La Sabana is one of Colombia's youngest universities and has already won the respect of the educational community. La Sabana was awarded the High Quality Institutional Accreditation by the National Ministry of Education in 2006 and is currently one of 16 Colombian universities that have been granted this endorsement. La Sabana is going through one of its most important moments of academic and institutional development. There are also 20 emerging groups that promote "semilleros de investigación" (research "offshoots") for students in all programmes. The university currently runs 17 undergraduate programmes, a number that will increase shortly. There are also 31 specialisation programmes and five master's programmes: Master in Education, Master in Process Management and Direction, Master in Business Administration (MBA), Master of Nursing, and Master in English Language Teaching -- Autonomous Learning Environments. Entry from: Bogota, Colombia Entry Title: "El Museo del Oro - Bogota" Entry: "After arriving in Bogotá, Daniel took me out for a nice dinner and some drinks. The food was amazing and it was nice to catchup with a familiar face. I went to bed pretty early tho as i was wrecked from the long trip and lack of sleep. Wednesday we had a mission, we wanted to check out the Gold Museum, get a mobile phone and contact some people and then organise some Spanish classes. The phone and sim card we picked up for $25 total from the local supermarket and while we waited for them to activate we thought we would check out "El Museo del Oro" (the Gold Museum) It was actually really, really cool and one of the best Museums I've been to. The exhibition is spread across 3 levels and broken down into different displays. The Main exhibit is called 'People and Gold in pre-hispanic Colombia' and displays goldsmith work of the different cultures which inhabited Colombia before the Spanish people arrived; the room is divided into different halls for every culture; Calima, Quimbaya, Muisca, Zenu, Tierradentro, San Augustín, Tolima, Tayrona and Uraba, and a special room called After Columbus (Despues de Colón). The remaining exhibits are called the 'The Cosmos' and 'The Offering'. The first shows the process of Chaman's Ceremony ...

www.unicef.org BOGOTA, Colombia, 16 December 2009 For over 40 years, Colombia has been a nation not only in the throes of conflict, but one consistently hit by natural disasters. In the northern city of Medellín, a strong partnership has been formed around the 'Esculea Busca al Niño(a)' (EBN) ('School Going to the Child') Initiative. Clara Serna has been involved with EBN since its inception and manages the program. "We go to the neighborhoods, we find children that are not in school and we evaluate them. Then we start to talk to the family to find out why they are not in school and then when we find out why, then we start to resolve the problem their own specific problems," she said. Across Columbia, people, parents, teachers, government and non-governmental organizations have consistently seen education as a long-term approach to mitigating violence and better preparing for natural disasters. Tangible solutions that can help heal and restore the country are deeply dependent upon an educated and strong generation of young people. These partnerships and programmes are providing a lifeline to Colombia's children, the lifeline of education.

Entry from: Bogota, Colombia Entry Title: "Bogota, Colombia... the Capitol" Entry: "Here in the countries capitol! This is an absolutely huge city and I am feeling quite small and completely lost. I couldn't believe when I was entering Bogota- the bus crossed the city lines and it still took 25 minutes to get to the bus terminal. The city is THAT big!!! Bogota has some of Colombia's most amazing museums and art galleries and I spent two days touring many of them. So much culture and history in this city... it is quite amazing and certainly a different pace from my last month of hills and mountain living! There were quite a few schools visiting the museums today and it was quite funny because many of the young students were more interested in me than the objects housed within the museum walls! I don't think they often see Japanese American tourists here. Many of the kids took photos of me with their cell phones... it was very silly."
